The Australia Awards Scholarships provide opportunities for citizens of participating countries from Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study in Australia.
John Alabi from Nigeria is one of the current recipients of the Australia Awards Scholarships, studying UQ's Master of Sustainable Energy. He previously worked as a power system engineer with the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

He said that arriving at The University of Queensland was an eye-opener in order to see, to know and to understand the needs in the energy sector globally to move from the current methods of energy generation to sustainable ways.
"This program is not only empowering me, but it is also giving me the required skills and knowledge that will assist me in being a good energy leader in combating the problems of climate change in my country and the world at large," he said.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, the deadline was recently extended to 30 June 2020 for most countries.
