Researcher biography

Vigya is a Research Fellow with the Energy Poverty Research Group (EPRG). She is also an Honorary Fellow with the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM), Sustainable Minerals Institute at UQ where she was a Postdoctoral Fellow until May 2015. More about her projects at CSRM here.

Her broad interests are in the areas of sustainability, poverty and livelihoods, climate change adaptation, natural disasters, mining, and energy for development.

At EPRG, her project is examining the interconnections between energy, climate change (and disasters), and poverty and development. She is also following Adani’s Carmichael mining project in Queensland and exploring links between Australian coal exports and India’s energy poverty.

Vigya has a PhD in sustainability and international development from the University of Adelaide, MSc in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Infrastructure from KTH, Sweden and BE in Instrumentation from Kurukshetra, India.
