The objective of this project will be to consolidate and extend this theoretical literature on research joint ventures and technological licensing, as it is applied to innovation in emissions reducing technology in the energy industry. Specifically, we develop a national innovation policy focusing on the development of alternative energy technologies and ecologically sustainable transport and power generation systems.

More broadly we shall propose amendments to the patent system that will enable it to continue to deliver substantial increases in national wealth while, at the same time, minimise the environmental impacts of economic activity. Hence this project focuses on two of the main GCI themes examining the impact of technological innovation on climate change, showing how national innovation policy can be adapted to promote the emission reduction in energy markets.
